The Zamboanga Sibugay
“Sibug ari bagay” meaning come closer my friend was the answer of the town datu who did not understand the question of the visitor asking him ‘What is the name of this river’. Through the years, the river known as such and evolved to what is known today as SIBUGAY river traveling through, along and nearby municipalities of the newly created Province of Zamboanga Sibugay.
This province was created out of the 3rd district of the mother province Zamboanga del Sur. There were several attempts to divide Zamboanga del Sur as early as 1960s but only came to realization with the enactment of RA 8973 dated February 22, 2002 with Cong. George T. Hofer as the principal author.
